Diesel, gasoline, LPG, CNG, as well as many biofuels such as ethanol, butanol, etc. are used as propellants at the present time. During the running of the internal combustion engine, some fuels penetrate into the crankcase and degrade the engine oil. This potentially reduces the lubricating ability of the oil and changes its degradation process. Submitted paper follows possible changes in lubricating capabilities of oil used in engines with specific fuels: n-butanol, LPG and diesel. Different type of fuel used in combination with an inappropriate operating mode might have a significant influence on the oil and consequently on the engine wear (monitored by a laser particle analyzer). This paper also deals with presence of various types of particles in the engine oil. Results demonstrate proceeding changes noticed in oil and also how was the degradation process effected.
